Ruth Elinor Singletary, 83, of Rockton, IL, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, in Beloit Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Clinton, WI, the daughter of Raymond and Gladys (MacArthur) Clowes. Ruth was a 1948 graduate of Clinton High School, Clinton, WI. She married Eugene M. Singletary on July 24, 1950, in Dubuque, IA. Ruth was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a creative seamstress, crocheter, and knitter. She and Eugene loved to dance. Ruth loved to ride behind Gene on their motorcycle as they traveled throughout the United States and Canada. Ruth was a former chairman of the Second Congregational Church Deaconesses and a member of the Choir and Bell Choir. She was a member of the Goldenaires Chorus of Grinnell Hall and a lifetime member of the Blackhawk Field Archers of Shirland, IL. Hope Evangelical Free Church was her church home.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene Singletary of Rockton, IL; children: Cynthia “Cindy” (Craig) Russell of Cottage Grove, WI, Martin “Marty” (Lisa) Singletary of Beloit, WI, Randall “Randy” (Debra “Deb”) Singletary of Maplewood, MN, and Rod (Diana) Singletary of Rockford, IL; grandchildren: Quentin Schrader, Christa (Luke) Norman, Matthew “Matt” (Joanna) Schrader, Angela (Chase) Boardman, Nicholas “Nick” Singletary, Tatiana “Tia” Singletary, Ryan Singletary, Nicole Singletary, and Kyle Singletary; great grandchildren: Anthony Schrader, Abbey Schrader, Ian Norman Hanne Norman, and Asher Boardman; sisters, Marge Sweet of Sycamore, IL, and Anita O’Donnell of Crystal Lake, IL. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as, brothers: Laurel Clowes, Calvin “Cy” Clowes and Gordon Clowes; sister-in-law, Elgeva Clowes; brothers-in-law, Jack Sweet and Jim O’Donnell; and other relatives.
Funeral service for Ruth will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at HOPE EVANGELICAL FREE CHURCH, 5656 Elevator Road, Roscoe, IL, with Reverend Kevin Dick officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery, Rockton, IL. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the CHURCH. DALEY MURPHY WISCH & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements.
