UPDATE: Janesville police investigating three burglaries
JANESVILLE—While Janesville police investigated two early morning smash-and-grab burglaries Thursday, a burglary to a third business was reported.
Sgt. Dean Sukus said police are investigating burglaries at:
-- 12:08 a.m. at Cork and Bottle, 2807 W. Court St.
-- 12:45 a.m. at Smokers World, 2622 E. Milwaukee St.
-- 5:36 a.m. at Smokers World, 1822 W. Court St.
“We don't believe these (first) two tonight were related to each other and the other half dozen incidents over the past several weeks,” he said.
Sukus wasn't sure if the third incident is related.
“We're still there (investigating) and got to look at video,” he said.
Neighbors of Cork and Bottle called police after they heard glass breaking and saw a male and female enter the business through the drive-up window, Sukus said.
“They made off with liquor and cigarettes and were last seen fleeing north of the business on foot,” he said.
Cork and Bottle was burglarized earlier this month.
An alarm alerted police to Smokers World, where the business owner found a window next to the main door broken. Video surveillance shows two males covering their heads with their shirts and stealing cigarettes.
Police were reviewing security video and processing evidence from both scenes, Sukus said.
“Somebody may have been injured at Cork and Bottle, where blood was found at the scene," he said.
Police didn't know yet what was taken from the third crime scene.
