School supply drives in gear
Help area families in need meet the new school year by donating to one of these school supply drives:
• Help Whitewater children in need by donating gently used children's clothes (including new undergarments and socks) and new school supplies. Please drop off your gently used back-to-school clothes and new school supplies here: First Citizens State Bank (main office), SweetSpot Café, Irvin L Young Memorial Library, Sentry, Whitewater Aquatic and Fitness Center or the Commercial Bank (Fremont Street and in Sentry). The Whitewater Community Clothes Closet will distribute donations on Saturday, Aug. 16 and Tuesday, Aug. 19 at Whitewater Congregational United Church of Christ, 133 S. Franklin St. in Whitewater Questions? Call Kay at 262-379-0187.
• The Walworth County Volunteer Services office, in conjunction with St. John in the Wilderness Church of Elkhorn, is sponsoring a school supply and backpack drive for families in need. Last year, 200 students were served. This year, the number is expected to be even greater. School supplies or monetary donations can be brought to the University of Wisconsin-Extension office at the government center in downtown Elkhorn or to St. John's at 12 S. Church St., Elkhorn. Distribution of supplies will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. The items most needed are: backpacks, spiral notebooks, lined paper, pencils, pens, washable marketers, colored pencils, folders and index cars.
If you know of any families who might need help, call Colleen Lesniak at 262-741-4223 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
