Fourteen hits weren’t enough for the Beloit Snappers on Tuesday.

They piled up the base knocks, but Cedar Rapids scored 10 runs in a span of two innings to earn a 12-5 Midwest League baseball victory to open a series at Pohlman Field.

The Snappers led 2-0 after two innings, but the Kernels tied it up in the top of the third. Then they blew the doors off in the fifth.

There, they scored six runs on six singles and two walks, chasing Beloit reliever Joseph Michaud after just 2/3 of an inning.

Cedar Rapids then added four more runs in the sixth despite the fact that its first two hitters were put out. Once again, the Kernels had no extra-base hits.

The two teams play again at 7 p.m. tonight.
