JANESVILLE—A garden tended by Rock County Jail inmates will hold its annual open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20.

The select inmates are members of the Rock County Education and Criminal Addictions Program, known as RECAP.

The garden has been in operation for nearly 23 years. It provides educational services to RECAP inmates while providing produce to food pantries and organizations throughout the county.

This year, the inmates have put in 3,382 hours tending the garden, according to a sheriff's office news release.

The garden features raised beds, horizontal grows, an Italian garden and a shelter covered in grape vines.

The garden is east of the sheriff's office off Highway 14, behind and next to the county Youth Services Center.

RECAP inmates will give garden tours. Refreshments will be served. Produce from the garden will be for sale to the public. Proceeds from the sales will pay for operational costs and future garden projects.
