JANESVILLE—Investigators have finished looking into the fire that destroyed the Anchor Inn bar and restaurant at Newville.

The cause remains undetermined, said Capt. Todd Christiansen of the Rock County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau.

Investigators looked into the possibility that the fire was set by burglars who were trying to cover their tracks, because the alarm that alerted authorities to the fire was a burglar alarm at 3:52 a.m. Aug. 4, Christiansen said.

No evidence of a burglary was found, however, and the fire could have tripped the burglar alarm, Christiansen said.

The business at 718 E. Highway 59 in the town of Fulton was judged a total loss, with damage estimated to be as high as $1 million. Owners John and Dawn Kinnett have said they will rebuild.
