John W. Eyster: For blogger, there are only two choices in 15th state Senate race
I am torn between voting next Tuesday, August 12 in our 15th State Senate District between Janis Ringhand and Austin Scieszinski. I will NOT vote for Mike Sheridan.
WHY NOT MIKE SHERIDAN? He had his chance and was doing a good job, but then… he dropped a key bill in the Assembly and changed his own stance on a bill to reform the pay day loan industry in Wisconsin when he “got in bed” (literally and figuratively) with a lobbyist for the industry! If you want to see the consequences of that failure on the part of Sheridan, just count the number of pay day loan businesses on Milton Avenue, Janesville, WI!
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall,” is the truth stated in Proverbs 16:18 (NRSV translation). Numerous eyewitness testimonies describe the attitudes and behaviors of Speaker of the WI State Assembly Mike Sheridan at the time of his change on the pay day loan bill. I've read Sheridan's rationale that he got the bill passed which was feasible. That does NOT explain that Speaker Sheridan discontinued his own control of the bill shifting it to a committee and removing him from the process. Passing the buck?
I have read all of the Letters to the Editor articulating support for and critiquing each of the 3 Democrat candidates for this PRIMARY ELECTION next Tuesday, August 12 with much interest gaining information and perspective. I have read the Gazette's articles starting with the Sheridan announcement article, “State Senate candidate Mike Sheridan: 'GM could return'” by Frank Schultz and Neil Johnson published on April 27, 2014. I confess I am VERY CONCERNED about the revelation in that article that Sheridan has been working for businessman Bill Watson to gain the development at I-90 and Rock County M. Another LOBBYIST! I am not comfortable with the maneuvers of Mr. Watson. Sheridan's work for Watson is suspect to me. I am among those who oppose Watson's grand plan for a I-90 & County M “large business development.”
I have read articles and opinion columns in the Wisconsin State Journal and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel gaining more information and perspective.
BOTTOM-LINE: I am not confident to vote for Mike Sheridan. I continue to be torn between Janis Ringhand and Austin Scieszinski. Help me decide by posting YOUR comment articulating YOUR advice for my vote.
FOOTNOTE: You already know, from my WE THE PEOPLE blog, “One big reason to vote down BTC referendum” that I am going to vote, “NO” next Tuesday, August 12 on the BTC $4 million/year without SUNSET—permanent increase in tax income.
Countdown to PRIMARY & REFERENDUM ELECTION DAY to Tuesday, August 12. BE SURE YOU VOTE!
