Thomas James Porter, age 76, of Janesville, died on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Janesville, on July 2, 1938, the son of the late Clifford R. and Helen (Handtke) Porter. Tom graduated from Janesville High School and worked at GMAD for over 45 years, retiring in 2002. Shortly after High School, he married Karen Callison and together they had three children. Tom later married Connie J. Swart on Nov. 23, 1993, and they enjoyed traveling and spending weekends at their place at Lake Mason in Briggsville, WI. Tom proudly served in the US Army and after he was honorably discharged, he continued serving his country for over 30 years in the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant and retiring in 1998. Tom was very active in Little League Baseball, where he coached for over 30 years; and he, also, served as Boys Baseball president for 5 years. Tom was an avid golfer and Green Bay Packer fan, a great fan and supporter of UW Badger basketball and football, where he has held season tickets for many years. Along with traveling, he enjoyed catching up on the news at the UAW retiree breakfast club and playing cards. He was a member of the 32nd Brigade Red Arrow Club and UAW Retirees.

Tom is survived by his wife, Connie; two sons, Bradley Porter and Eric (Brenda) Porter, all of Janesville; grandchildren: Zachary (Sasha) Stuka and their daughter, Simone; Kayli Porter; Brianne Porter and her children: Dominic, Damien, Violet and Amelia; and Jenni (Mike) Sanborn and their children, Ava and Kash. Tom is further survived by his sister, Peggy (Ed) Schiffra of Chandler, AZ; several other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Lon Porter on Aug. 17, 2002; brother, Steve Porter; and sister, Cindy Hermanson.

Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 at the WHITCOMB - LYNCH FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with full Military Rites provided by VFW Kienow-Hilt Post 1621. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 until 7PM and again on Thursday morning from 10AM until the time of the service at the FUNERAL HOME.

A very warm and heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Rock Haven Nursing Home for the wonderful care and concern that you have given to Tom. All of you are true angels!!
