Raymond A. Marden, age 85, of Tomah, WI, formerly of Brodhead, passed away on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at the Tomah V.A. Medical Center, Tomah, WI. He was born on Sept. 2, 1928, in Greenwood, WI, the son of Archie and Rose Marie (Schroeder) Marden. He married Toshiko Ito on March 18, 1952, in Tokyo, Japan. She passed away on January 19, 2014. Ray served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, serving in 1950, and again in 1952. He retired from the military in 1968, and was always proud to have been a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, his 41 parachute jumps, and the casket bearing team with the National Honor Guard. He worked as a carrier with the Janesville Post Office until he went in the building business. Ray was the town chairman of Avon Township and President of the Orfordville Fire Department for 15 years. He also served on the Rock County Board, was a member of the American Legion-Post 209, Disabled Veterans, and also a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Brodhead, WI.
Ray is survived by his children, Ray (Martha) Marden Jr. of Janesville, WI, and Rosemary (Michael) Plantz of Stoughton; four grandchildren: including Joe Marden of Brodhead, Jesse (Jackie) Marden of Janesville; five great-grandchildren: including Jared Marden; and three sisters: Geneva, DeLores, and Bonnie (George) Pickle. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Archie Marden; a sister, Arlene Hagen; and daughter, Laura in 1989.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2015, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, WI, with full military rites.
