Midwest League: Beloit avoids sweep with 6-4 win
The Beloit Snappers used a three-run bottom of the fourth inning to salvage the final game of their series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Sunday.
Tyler Marincov started the big inning with a base on balls. After back-to-back fly-ball outs to left, Chih Fang Pan reached base on an error by Cedar Rapids right fielder Alex Swim. Marincov scored, and Pan wound up on third.
Michael Soto followed with his second RBI double of the game then scored on a Justin Higley single. Swim threw out Higley when he tried to extend his single into a double.
Things tightened up in the top of the eighth. Holding a 6-1 lead, Snappers reliever Hunter Adkins worked his team into a jam after Swim doubled to put runners at second and third against Adkins. Kernels left fielder Max Murphy singled to score one run, then catcher Michael Quesada rapped a two-run double to center field to make it 6-4.
Adkins walked the next batter before Beloit replaced him with Sam Bragg, who worked out of the two-on, one-out predicament by striking out the next two batters to end the inning. Bragg finished the game to record the save, striking out two more batters in the process.
The Snappers start a three-game series in Clinton at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
