Wagman makes most of first Snappers start
Joey Wagman made the most of his first start in Beloit.
Wagman, who had been pitching for the Rockford Aviators, had his contract purchased by the Oakland A’s, and they had him start for the Snappers on Thursday night.
The starter struck out seven in seven innings to help lead Beloit to an 11-4 victory, and the Snappers took two of three games in a home series against the Peoria Chiefs.
Wagman allowed just one run on three hits and didn’t walk a batter.
His teammates staked him to a quick lead, scoring four runs in the second inning and three more in the third. Melvin Mercedes had a triple and drove in four runs, while shortstop Branden Cogswell went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBI.
Beloit opens a home series with Cedar Rapids at 7 p.m. tonight at Pohlman Field.
