Richard D. "Cheeks" Knutson of Janesville, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 28, 2014, at his home. He was born to Herb and Renee Knutson on February 10, 1938. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1956. Richard won the American Legion Award and was a varsity 9 letter winner in basketball, baseball, and football. He signed right out of high school to play pro baseball with the Kansas City Athletics. Richard attended Milton College, where he met and married Phyllis Eggers in 1963. They were blessed with a son, John, born in 1966, before Phyllis was diagnosed with breast cancer. She passed away in 1976. John was the apple of his eye. He coached John throughout his childhood in baseball. Richard married Bonnie Blankenship in 1984, and became a blended family with the addition of Traci and Tod. He retired from Owen Vending in 2000. He loved fishing, golfing and hunting. He was a hero to his children and grandchildren. He never missed a hockey game, watching his boys when they were growing up, and continued his love of watching his grand kids play sports.

Richard is survived by his wife of 30 years, Bonnie; his sons, John (Pam) Knutson and Tod (LuAnn) Blankenship; his son-in-law, John Brammer; his beloved grandchildren: Mack, Charlie, Nick, and Sam Knutson, Kylee Brammer, and Finley and Stella Blankenship; his nephew, Gregg Clatworthy, and Gregg's children: Kathleen, Kellie, and Ryne. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Jackie Clatworthy and Renette Knutson; and by his daughter, Traci Brammer.

A Celebration of Richard's life will take place on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, from 11 AM until 1 PM at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, with a Memorial Service following at 1 PM.
