Cogswell delivers walkoff hit for Snappers
Branden Cogswell played the role of hero for the Beloit Snappers on Wednesday night.
The shortstop delivered an run-scoring, walkoff single in the bottom of the 11th inning to help the Snappers beat the Peoria Chiefs 4-3 in a Midwest League game at Pohlman Field.
Beloit jumped out to a quick lead with two runs in the first inning, but Peoria answered with two in the second.
The Chiefs took the lead in the third and led 3-2 until Tyler Marincov’s RBI single in the sixth.
The teams remained deadlocked, 3-3, until the 11th inning. Beloit second baseman Luis Baez drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Then Cogswell ripped a single to left, and Baez scored.
Joel Seddon earned the win with two innings of scoreless relief.
The two teams play again at 7 p.m. tonight at Pohlman Field.
