Snappers split doubleheader
The Beloit Snappers split a Midwest League baseball doubleheader Monday.
Lake County responded to big Beloit innings in the sixth and seventh to beat the Snappers, 9-8, in the doubleheader’s first game. The Snappers bounced back with a 6-3 victory in the nightcap.
In the victory, Beloit got home runs from Matt Chapman, Philip Pohl and Tyler Marincov to lead the way offensively.
Marincov went 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs and two RBI.
In the first game, Beloit used a pair of errors, a Chih Fang Pan double and a Justin Higley sacrifice fly to drum up a sixth-inning rally and take a 4-1 lead. But the Captains countered with a four-run bottom half of the inning to go up 5-4.
In the top of the seventh, the Snappers scored four more runs—including another RBI base hit for Pan—to take a three-run advantage into the final inning of the shortened game.
But Lake County responded again. A walk and a single following a throwing error put runners on the corners against Beloit’s Joel Seddon. After a Seddon strikeout, Paul Hendrix singled to drive in one run, then Dorssys Paulino hit a walk-off three run home run to right field to end the game.
Beloit opens a home series with Peoria at 7 p.m. tonight at Pohlman Field.
