December 29, 1927 - July 25, 2014

Dorothy Sommervold of Edgerton, and Milton, passed away on July 25, 2014, at Heartwarming House Assisted Living after a brief illness. Born in Edgerton, on Dec. 29, 1927, to parents, Bessie (Robinson) and Giles Lien; she lived nearly her entire life in the family home on Head Street. Dorothy "Dort" attended Edgerton Schools, graduating from Child High School in 1945. After graduation, she worked for several companies in the area, including Parker Pen, General Telephone, Coachman's Inn, and Rock County. In 1947, she was married to Harold "Peanuts" Sommervold, and together they raised three children. Dorothy was a very talented woman. She was an accomplished seamstress, gardener, and a fabulous cook. In earlier times, she and Harold enjoyed bowling and golfing together, and cheering on the Chicago Cubs. They also shared a fondness for a good game of cribbage. Dort was known best for her knitting, sharing with family members and friends many sweaters, hats, slippers, and afghans. In later years, she took great pride knitting blankets for Project Linus, a program that supplies blankets for children staying at University Hospital in Madison. An avid animal lover, Dort raised many dogs in her lifetime. There was always a dog at her side: cockers, bulldogs, dachsunds, golden retrievers, she loved them all. Bird-watching was of great interest to her as well, and the feeders were always full.

Dorothy is survived by her three children: Sue (Tom) Houge, Wendy (Ron Gehrig) King and Pete (Kathy) Sommervold. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Alison, Andy (Sarah), Robyn, Alex, and Nikki; and one great-grandson Max. Loved ones who passed on before her are her parents; husband, Harold; in-laws, Martin and Johanna; and all of her sisters and brothers-in-law.

We want to thank the caring staff at Heartwarming House and Mercy Hospice for the special care given to our mother.

You made her last days the best they could be.

Services for Dorothy will be held on Wednesday, July 30, at ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME in Edgerton, at 6 pm. Visitation will be from 4:30 until 6 pm, on the day of the service. Burial will be at Jenson Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin.
