Delores K. Harding, Brodhead, WI (1920 - 2014)

Delores K. Harding, 94, of Brodhead, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her loving and caring family. She was born on April 22, 1920, in Beloit, WI, to Floyd and Marion (Graves) Serns. She was a graduate of Beloit High School, Class of 1938. While a student, she played softball and was on the Women's Championship Basketball team. She was a graduate of Beloit Vocational School in the Business Class in 1941. She was joined in marriage to Lawrence R. Harding, Sr. on May 27, 1950, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Rockford, IL.
Delores was the prime example of a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to sew, paint pictures, bowl, and was a member of the Wisconsin Bowling League. Known as “Big D', her teammates would call out, “Get a strike, Big D”. Delores would host luncheons for the Farmerettes Women's Group. She was also a member of the Womens' Auxiliary Post 237, Footville, WI.
In her younger years, Delores worked at Elco Tool located in Rockford, in 1950. She worked as the secretary for the Civil Service for the Navy of Beloit, WI, and as a secretary for the National Youth Administration. She also worked as a keypunch operator at Rayovac of Madison, WI. Delores was very proud of her Norwegian heritage, visiting friends and relatives in Norway on occasions. She loved her cats and watching the birds at the feeders in the back yard. One of her greatest pleasures was observing hummingbirds dart from flower to flower. She loved the farm life and was a wonderful cook.
Delores is survived by her husband, Lawrence Harding, Sr.; her half-sister, Benny Kay (Dennis) Jorgenson of California; her half-brother, George (Doris) Serns of Rockford; and her three children: Floyd Harding of Texas, Lawrence Harding, Jr. (Kathy LaBarre) of Hanover, and Cheryl (Rick) Easland of Oregon, WI. She was the grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Owen Serns; nephew, Floyd (Chappy) Serns; step-son, Robert E. Harding; and grandson, Christopher Harding.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m at the ROSMAN, UEHLING, KINZER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM, Beloit. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Monroe Clinic Hospice Care.
