Youth baseball roundup: Janesville 14U splits two games

HENDERSON, Ky.—The Janesville 14U baseball team bounced back from a tough loss Friday afternoon to romp in a Friday night contest and earn the No. 3 seed going into single-elimination play at the Ohio Valley Regional here.

Janesville plays the winner of Owensboro (Kentucky)-Crown Point (Indiana) game at 5 p.m. today.

Four Janesville errors led to four unearned runs in a 5-4 loss to Jasper (Indiana) on Friday afternoon.

“It was a tough-luck loss, but we created most of the tough luck,” Janesville coach Tom Davey said.

Janesville had runners on first and third with two out in the top of the seventh inning but couldn't get the tying run home.

Brodie Klukas and Noah Berghammer each had two hits for Janesville. Berghammer struck out four in five innings.

Janesville rebounded in a 14-2 rout of Henderson (Kentucky) in a game called after five innings.

Five players each had two RBI for the local squad. Janesville scored five times in the first inning to make things easy for starting pitcher Jacob Pfeiffer.

Nick Cramer and Tyler Kulas each had three hits, and Jaydn Ellis and Sam Garvoille each added two apiece.

Jordan Bailey had an RBI triple—his second in as many games—and scored a run in the first inning to spark a 6-2 win for Janesville's 13U baseball tournament team against Jasper (Indiana) in pool play of the Ohio Valley Regional tournament Friday afternoon at Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

The Janesville squad followed that with an 18-2 romp of Elizabethtown on Friday night and earned the No. 1 seed going into single-elimination play today.

Janesville plays the winner of No. 8 Matoon and No. 9 Russell County at 1 p.m. today.

In the win over Jasper, Dan Blomgren led off the bottom of the first inning with a single, and Bailey followed with his run-scoring triple before Ben Coulter delivered Bailey home with a single to left field.

Blomgren also sparked the three-run second inning with a one-out walk, followed by a Tyler Campbell single. Tanner Williams got hit by a pitch to load the bases.

One run scored on a wild pitch. Ross March hit a two-out, two-RBI single into center field to open up a 5-0 advantage for Janesville.

Jasper threatened to cut into that lead in the fourth. They loaded the bases, but Janesville fielded a ground ball to third base and forced the runner out and home, who slid interfered with the Janesville catcher as he tried to turn a double play at first base. The runner at first was out as a result to help Janesville escape trouble.

The Janesville 12U won its first game of pool play with a 9-4 victory over SE Lexington, but then lost to Henryville 5-3 to finish pool play with a 1-3 record.

Janesville begins single-elimination pool play today.

11U

The Janesville 11U squad finished Ohio Valley Region pool play with a 0-3 record, losing to Elizabethtown 13-1 and Newburgh 10-5 on Friday at Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

The team begins single-elimination play today.
