Robert C. Vicars, Clinton, WI
July 20, 2014
Bob C. Vicars of Clinton, passed away on July 20, 2014, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Beloit, WI, to Rachel Elis. He married Beverly Korth on Oct. 31, 1947. Bob served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-1947. He began his career at GM in 1949. In 1959, he ascended to bargaining chairperson. He was drafted from UAW Local 95 in December of 1964, to the International Staff of Region 10. Bob was appointed Assistant Director of UAW Region 10 and ascended to director of Region 10 in 1985. He retired in 1992, and was elected Chairperson of the Retired Worker’s of Local 95 in 1993, a position he kept until June of 2012, when Bev became ill and needed him. He returned to the Retired Worker’s Chapter of Local 95 as Vice Chair and served until June 2014.
Bob’s priorities were his God, his family and his Union. As important as his career was, his family was his top priority, enjoying time with his bride of 65 years and his daughters and granddaughter. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage on Rock Lake in Lake Mills, WI, boating and simply relaxing on the water. You could often see him driving his black Cadillac with his UAW license plate and his American flag flying, on his way to the casino.
Bob is survived by his two daughters, Linda (Bob) Schut and Teresa Vicars (fiancé Kevin Bergholz), and her daughter, Rachel Martin. In addition he is survived by six grandchildren in New Mexico: Melinda, Kari, Patrisha, Gary, Jon, and Robbie; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly in 2013; his mother, Rachel in 1948; and his son, John in 1977.
The family would like to thank the staff at Beloit Regional Hospice for the care they gave Dad.
