JANESVILLE—Lions Beach is now open to the public after elevated levels of bacteria in the water prompted the city last week to post a water quality advisory.

The city's recreation division reports bacteria levels at Lions Pond this week have fallen below concentrations that require water quality postings or closure, according to the city's recreation division.

The city rescinded the advisory after testing this week showed bacteria concentrations of less than one part per million, well below the range requiring an advisory, according to the recreation.

Bacteria counts during last week were between 250 and 1,000 parts per million, the city reported. That's still within a safe range for swimming, but bacteria counts higher than 250 parts per million require public notice of an advisory.
