MADISON—State Rep. Janis Ringhand, D-Evansville, has picked up the recommendation of Wisconsin's largest union of educators in her bid for the 15th Senate District.

Betsy Kippers, a Racine teacher and president of the Wisconsin Education Association Council, said in a news release that Ringhand is the best choice for students, schools and families.

“Janis Ringhand understands that to help working people and expand opportunity, elected leaders must focus on raising wages, improving schools and creating jobs,” she said. “She has earned the support of educators.”

Ringhand said Wisconsin educators have a tremendous responsibility in preparing children for the future.

“Ensuring they have the resources and support they need to be successful has always been a top priority of mine,” she said. “I fought the historic budget cuts to our public schools inflicted by Republican legislators and Gov. Walker and worked to protect our tax dollars from subsidizing unaccountable private schools.”

Ringhand faces Austin Scieszinski and former Rep. Mike Sheridan in a Democratic primary Aug. 12.
