ELKHORN—The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal town of Sharon shooting last week is wrapping up and authorities plan to meet with the Walworth County District Attorney in the coming days, Undersheriff Kurt Picknell said.

Eric Gutierrez, the 11-year-old boy fatally shot, was declared brain dead July 10, a day before his organs were donated.

A Thursday funeral service was planned in Madison.

The shooting was reported at 12:33 p.m. July 9. Walworth County sheriff's deputies and Sharon police responded to a 911 call of a person shot in the head in a wooded area behind a home at N1602 County K.

Eric's uncle said earlier that Eric and a 13-year-old who lives at the address where the incident happened had set up targets. The 13-year-old fired the gun and Eric “ran through the line of fire” and was hit.

Picknell said findings of the investigation and potential charges will be discussed at the meeting with District Attorney Dan Necci.
