Janesville police offer training to keep women safe

JANESVILLE--Janesville police will conduct safety training for women from 5–7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug.19.

The training will take place at the Mercy Center at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, 1000 Mineral Point Ave., Janesville.

The training is called S.A.F.E., which stands for Self defense, Awareness, Familiarization and Exchange. The program is taught by police officers and is designed to teach women how to protect themselves from crime by being aware of their surroundings and by introducing them to physical training methods.

Classes typically fill quickly, so early registration is recommended.

Those unable to attend can contact the police department to ask about future training sessions.
