Robert Stewart, Fontana, WI (1934-2013)
August 31, 1934 - November 15, 2013
Robert T. Stewart, age 79, of Fontana, WI, passed away Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Golden Years Nursing Home in Walworth, WI, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on Aug. 31, 1934, he was the only son of Frank and Ruth Stewart of Kenosha, WI. Upon graduation from Walworth High School in 1952, Bob went to work for Lake Geneva Sand & Gravel in Fontana, WI. As one of two employees, he learned his excavating expertise and skill from the owner Max Janke. While employed at the gravel pit he also farmed 200 acres and raised 500 hogs a year on a farm in Walworth Township. In March of 1971, Bob and his former wife purchased Fontana Sand & Gravel from Ernest Nobis, discontinued the farming operation and became the owner & operator of Robert Stewart Excavating in Fontana, WI. Bob truly cherished the time he spent at his cabin in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. When there, he enjoyed time spent kayaking and sitting under his big maple tree where he could watch the eagles by day and listen to the loons on the peaceful lake at night. He was a generous man who loved his family dearly and would always look for a good reason to brag about his grandchildren.
Survivors of Bob include his sister, Mary Stewart Brandt of Glens Falls, NY; his four children: June E. (Susie) Stewart-Cerny of Sharon, WI, Robert D. (Lisa) Stewart of Walworth, WI, Ronald W. Stewart of Walworth, and Connie M. Stewart of Walworth; his grandchildren: Renee, Megan, Anna, Emilie, Jill, Hailey, Zachary, Benjamin, Michael, Mariah, Stephanie, Katie, Sophia and Morgan; great-grandchildren: McKenna, Madeline, Aden and Mason. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved companion of 16 years, Ester Swatek of Elkhorn, WI. He was preceded in death by his 3rd son, Michael F. Stewart; and his parents.
A graveside service will be held at 4 PM Sunday, July 20, 2014, at the BRICK CHURCH CEMETERY at W6896 Brick Church Road in Walworth Township.
