July 13, 2014

With great weather, and dedicated volunteer donors and workers second to none, the American Red Cross blood drive July 2 at Whitewater Middle School was a resounding success! We collected 112 units of blood for people in need.

Special thanks go to the wonderful groups that help the drive succeed. Special thanks to the volunteers of Volunteer Connection for their help in the donor room, registration and the canteen area. Also to Circle K International from UW-Whitewater for help unloading, setting up and providing food.

Also deserving high praise for helping get the word out are the Whitewater Register, Daily Jefferson County Union, Good Morning Advertiser, our own Cable 13, the city crew who put up our banner and local radio stations.

Another huge thanks to American Red Cross nurses and staff. They do an amazing job and truly love what they do.

None of this would be possible without the help of Jeanine Fassl. She has been dedicated to this cause for many years and is an indescribable help to me and my co-coordinator, Meredith Carlson, as we learn what it takes to have a successful blood drive. While I'm not a Whitewater native, I feel blessed and amazed to be going to school in a community that truly knows what it means to give back and help others. I'm deeply grateful for the fine support for the American Red Cross blood drives. You are All-American heroes!
