OCONOMOWOC—Errors cost Janesville’s American Legion baseball team a chance to play for the Tri-State Classic championship.

Post 205 committed six errors in a 7-1 loss to Genoa City on Saturday and will play in the third-place game this morning. Janesville (17-10) reached the semifinal game by beating Milwaukee RVI, 6-5 in eight innings, in its first game Saturday.

“The sad part is that they were easy plays we made the errors on,” Janesville coach Bob Schenck said. “Oconomowoc scored two runs in one inning on no hits because of two errors.

“It’s disappointing because we had a good win over Milwaukee in our first game and had played pretty well since coming back from Colorado.”

Chase Nyborg won game one for Post 205 with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth. The Janesville Craig junior also came on in relief to earn the win.

Brandon Hughes had three of Janesville’s eight hits in game one, including two doubles.
