WHITEWATER—Residents are invited to the Whitewater Police Department's annual National Night Out event Tuesday, Aug. 5.

The national celebration was created to strengthen crime prevention awareness, generate participation in and support for local crime prevention programs, and to strengthen relationships between police and the community.

Whitewater's event runs from 5-8 p.m. at Cravath Lake Park, 341 S. Fremont St.

Police officers, fire fighters and EMS personnel will take part in the celebration. Food, beverages and entertainment will be provided.

Vehicles from various law enforcement agencies will be present, and people can learn proper bike, home, Internet, and vehicle safety, plus how to check car seats correctly.

Sexual assault awareness and healthy living tips also will be provided.

Attendees also can try to dunk Whitewater Police Cpt. Brian Uhl in a dunk tank. All proceeds from the dunk tank will benefit an effort to fund the police department's new K-9 unit.
