Lucille E. Higgins, age 88, of Janesville, formerly of Orfordville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Huntington Place, with her youngest daughter by her side. She was born Oct. 16, 1925, in Dysart, IA, the daughter of Frank and Ella (Kersten) Sutton. Lucille married Harlan Higgins on July 28, 1944, in Dysart, IA. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 2003. Lucille held numerous jobs over the years, but took special pride in her role as wife, mother, and grandmother. She had numerous hobbies, including ceramics, gardening, and embroidery. She will be especially remembered for the wonderful baked goods and treats that came from her kitchen.

Lucille is survived by her children, Marilyn Higgins of Janesville, and Rosalyn (Michael) Soik of Stevens Point; grandchildren: Danielle Silver of Madison, Matthew Sikorski of Plover, and Rebecca (Stefan) Adams of Eureka, MO; step-grandchild, Jeremy Soik of Plover; great-grandchild, Andrew Silver of Madison; brothers, Marvin (Norma) Sutton of Marion, IA, and Dale (Donna) Sutton of Vinton, IA; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harlan; oldest daughter, Carolyn Higgins; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Richard Higgins; and in-laws, Sheldon and Esther Higgins.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice and the staff at Huntington Place for their support and love.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at NEW HORIZON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, Hwy 11/Murphy Road, Janesville, with Gail Ray officiating. Entombment will be in Milton Lawns Memorial Park, Janesville. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the CHURCH. NEWCOMER-SILVERTHORN CHAPEL ON THE HILL is assisting the family. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial in Lucille's honor will be established at a later date.
