EMERALD GROVE—A semitrailer truck carrying 44,000 pounds of concrete went off the road and got stuck in the creek, causing Highway 14 at Cemetery Road to be shut down off and on for more than seven hours Wednesday night.

The truck was traveling east at 7:30 p.m. when its driver lost control. The truck ended up in the creek under the bridge in the town of Bradford, said Sgt. Mark Thompson of the Rock County Sheriff's Office.

The rig struck the bridge, but no structural damage was found by a public works crew who inspected it, he said.

Thompson did not have the driver's name but said he was not injured.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes of the roads were closed periodically but “most of the time we were operating with one lane in that area with traffic control,” Thompson said.

A contractor of the towing company unloaded the concrete, he said.

The scene was cleared and road reopened just before 3 a.m. Thursday, Thompson said.
