MILTON—An 11-year-old boy pointing a toy gun outside a car window caused a three-vehicle accident Tuesday at 2801 E. Highway 59, a Rock County Sheriff's Office official said.

Two drivers going west on East Highway 59 slammed on their brakes when they saw the boy playing with what they thought to be a real gun, Sgt. Josh Lund said.

The third vehicle in the westbound lane swerved into the eastbound lane, hitting another vehicle and causing it to roll over.

The people in the two vehicles behind the boy and in the eastbound vehicle were taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, with non-life-threatening injuries, Lund said.

The accident happened at 5:44 p.m. near Lakeland Camping Resort, blocking the road. Both lanes of traffic were closed for about an hour between East Vincent Road and East County N, according to Rock County 911 Center.

The sheriff's office, Edgerton police and Milton Fire Department responded.

No citations were issued. The 11-year-old was referred to juvenile authorities for disorderly conduct, Lund said.
