Rock County man accused of breeding roosters for cock fighting

TOWN OF NEWARK—The Rock County Sheriff’s Office reports arresting a rural man who investigators believe was breeding roosters for cock fighting.

Jorge A. Marquez, 37, town of Newark, was arrested on a charge of instigating fights between animals as well as possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

Sixteen pounds of marijuana were found in a crawl space when deputies searched the residence at 8424 West Mill Pond Road, west of Beloit, according to a news release.

Sixty-one rooster were found in cages at the residence. None required medical care, according to the news release.

The arrest comes after a four-month investigation.
