Five suspects detained in armed robbery
JANESVILLE — Janesville police on Wednesday arrested five people, accusing them of being party to robbery.
Arrested were Edward L. Toyer, 17, of 1233 Fir St., Janesville; Antonio C. Winters, 17, of 144 McKenna Blvd., Madison, and three juveniles—all 16-year-old Janesville residents. All are being charged with being a party to a robbery crime, according to a news release.
At 12:39 p.m., officers responded to a call in the area of Balmoral Drive and Glenbarr Drive in Janesville.
A male called 911 and an argument could be overheard, according to the release. While officers were in route to the call, information was received indicating the call was a robbery in progress.
According to police, one of the suspects was armed with a knife.
The victim reported to the emergency dispatcher that five people attacked him and took his money, according to the release.
Officers and detectives responded to the area and information, eventually ending up at a residence in the 4000 block of Markham Drive, according to the release.
The investigation showed Toyer and Winters and three juvenile males were involved in a drug transaction with the victims, according to the written release.
There was a dispute over the transaction and eventually a robbery where $1,100 in cash, a cellphone and a watch were taken, according to the release.
All five suspects are in custody. The Janesville Police Department's detective bureau is continuing its investigation, the release stated.
