JANESVILLE—A 63-year-old Janesville man with signs of being struck by lightning was listed in “critical” condition Tuesday at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, a hospital spokeswoman told Sgt. Aaron Ellis of the Janesville Police Department.

Gaylin Edwards was taken to Mercy, said a Janesville Fire Department spokesman.

Paramedics transported him there after he collapsed outside his vehicle during Monday night's storm, said Lt. Terry Sheridan of the police department.

Edwards had stopped in traffic around 5:15 p.m. on Highway 14 near Interstate 90/39 when witnesses saw him get out of his vehicle and do something with a windshield wiper, Sheridan said.

That's when he collapsed and fell unconscious with a head injury, Sheridan said.
