Lineup shuffle helps Milton Raptors past Janesville Aces
MILTON—Milton Raptors coach Doug Welch penciled Adam Catacutan into the leadoff spot to generate an offensive spark for his team against the rival Janesville Aces on Sunday. The move couldn’t have worked much better.
Catacutan singled to start the game, and the next five batters behind him all reached safely against Aces pitcher Mikey Davis. When the inning was over, Milton held a 5-0 lead, the big hit a three-run home run off the bat of Josh Shere.
“We’ve been searching for an early lead for a couple of weeks now, and we finally got it,” Welch said.
From there, Sean McCann settled into a nice rhythm, striking out 12 batters through eight-plus innings of work.
In the ninth, the Raptors made a pitching change that pitted Matt Fredricks against his son, Brett, who plays for the Aces. Brett Fredricks singled off his dad to trigger a rally that eventually put the tying run on base before T.J. Klawitter took the mound and put out the fire for Milton.
Janesville’s Mitch Perkins had two hits in the game, including an RBI single in the ninth.
Milton is now 8-2, still in second place behind Neosho at 11-1. They play Farmington at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Milton.
