COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Janesville American Legion Post 205 split another doubleheader Sunday during its first day of play in Colorado.

The name of both games was offense. In winning the first game, 17-11, Janesville (9-5) had a nine-hit, 14-run inning in the top of the fifth. In its 15-4 nightcap loss, it allowed 12 runs on 11 hits in the bottom of the second.

Coach Bob Schenck said the altitude change clearly affected the players in the second game.

“We knew they would get tired and need a few days to acclimate to the altitude,” Schenck said.

In the first game, Janesville fell behind 8-0 after three innings but pulled three back in the top of the fourth. Trailing 9-3 going into the fifth, Post 205 blew up for 14 runs to take control of the game.

Seven errors, a problem that plagued the team the day before in North Platte, Nebraska, took some shine off the win.

“We aren't going to keep winning games 17-11. Out of their 11 runs in that game, six were unearned,” Schenck said. “We need to get these mistakes cleaned up before tournament time in July.”

Janesville has another doubleheader today against Colorado Baseball Academy.
