Janesville Legion sweeps Hononegah
Janesville pitchers were dialed in Wednesday night in an American Legion doubleheader with Hononegah.
Post 205 allowed only five hits in two games in sweeping the twinbill at Riverside Park. Janesville won game one, 8-1, and cruised to an 11-1 win in six innings in game two.
Janesville snapped a two-game losing streak in improving to 7-3 on the season.
“Ryan (Cashore) really threw well for us in game one,” Janesville coach Bob Schenck said. “His curveball was working well, and they had trouble catching up to his fastball.
“Colin Frey had a nice bounceback game for us in game two. He really struggled with his control last time out, but tonight his location was much better. He only had one walk.”
Janesville scored seven runs in the second inning to break game one open. Cullen Osmond, Will Theisen and Chase Nyborg each had two-run singles in the inning.
Cashore picked up the win with four shutout innings.
JT Smithback's two-run double highlighted a six-run first inning for Post 205 in game two.
Post 205 leaves Friday for a 10-day, 12-game road trip to Nebraska and Colorado. Janesville plays North Platte, Nebraska, in a doubleheader Saturday to begin the tough stretch.
“This is going to be a great opportunity for everybody involved,” Schenck said. “We're going to be playing a lot of baseball, doing some sightseeing and taking in a Rockies game.
“It's going to be all hands on deck pitching-wise with 12 games in 10 days. But it's going to be a trip where everybody on the roster gets plenty of playing time, and we start to build for what we really think can be a successful summer.”
Janesville returns home on July 9 against Madison Impact.
