Janesville Legion suffers from deja vu
The Janesville Post 205 American Legion baseball team experienced a bit of déjà vu Tuesday night.
The group lost to Beloit by three runs for the second time in three days.
Janesville committed six errors that led to five unearned runs in a 7-4 loss at Pohlman Field. Post 205 fell to 5-3.
“It was almost identical to Sunday,” Janesville coach Bob Schenck said. “We can play a lot better, and we’re going to have to. We’re going to have to shore up the defense if we’re going to be the team we think we can be.”
Beloit took the lead with four runs in the second inning. All of them were unearned for Janesville starter Logan Coulter, who was the victim of four errors in that inning alone.
“Errors are the reason we lost,” Schenck said. “We had a rough inning. We just didn’t make plays.”
Janesville battled back to within 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning, when center fielder Cullen Osmond belted one of his two doubles.
But Beloit answered with three in the bottom of the sixth. One of them was unearned after Janesville committed another blunder on a double play that would have ended the inning.
Post 205 will attempt to right the ship tonight when it hosts a doubleheader with Honenegah at 5 p.m. at Riverside Park.
