Richard C. “Red” Wenzel, age 92, of Janesville, died Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Rock Haven. He was born in Janesville, on June 24, 1921, the son of William and Flora (Erdman) Wenzel. Red married Esther M. Burnard on Oct. 21, 1944, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Janesville. He was employed by Ridge Automotive Parts as a machinist for 42 years before retiring in 1983. He was a long-time and faithful member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Additionally, he was a member of the Rock River Thresheree, as he had a love of Antique engines and tractors. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Red is survived by his wife, Esther; three children: Sandra (Gordon) Christensen of Janesville, Kathleen Van Caster of Mesa, AZ, and Bradley (Kelly) Wenzel of Janesville; six grandchildren: Troy Christensen, Tami Watters, Amanda Wenzel, Jessy (Josh) Molter, Chad (Melissa) Dillenberg, and Paula Petraski; four great-grandchildren: Kaylee Petraski, Brady and Allison Dillenberg, and Taylor Watters; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Jaeger; and a brother, Ralph Wenzel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2014, at MT. CALVARY LUTHERAN CHURCH with Rev. Cory Rajek officiating. Entombment will follow in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Visitation will take place on Sunday from 1 until 3 p.m. at the SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY, Janesville, and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the CHURCH.
