JANESVILLE—Janesville police are investigating the theft of a pickup from the city's west side after the truck was used to damage an east-side business early Friday.

Sgt. Dean Sukus said employees at Gallina USA, 4335 Capital Circle, called police about 3 a.m. to report a Chevy S-10 pickup had backed into a closed garage door.

As officers were responding, one saw the vehicle near Craig High School.

The driver sped away, and officers found the vehicle unoccupied but still running near the intersection of Fremont Street and Eastwood Avenue.

“It had slowly rolled and came to rest against a tree,” Sukus said.

The driver fled on foot and eluded police, who contacted the registered owner and discovered the truck had been stolen from the 1400 block of Mole Avenue.
