JANESVILLE---Visitors to the Oak Hill Cemetery chapel chose the winning artist in a student art show depicting stained glass at the historic structure, and stained-glass artist Richard Snyder will create a replica of the winning design.

The glass will be presented to the Franklin Art Department. Students will help choose the colors of the glass.

Snyder created a similar piece of glass from student art in 2009. That is hanging in the Franklin Middle School library.

Snyder is co-president of the Friends of Oak Hill Chapel, a group of residents who formed to save the building after city officials announced plans to demolish it.

“I wanted to involve the school students in this project,” Snyder aid. “It will be them caring for it (the chapel) in the future.”

Snyder worked with Franklin art teacher Sharon Gaver and art students in grades six through eight created art for display at a recent open house at the chapel.

First place winner was sixth-grader Maddy Milz.

Second-place winner was eighth-grader Jose Chamley, and third-place winner was seventh-grader Von Olson.
