Eugene Harry Grenawalt, age 81, died Monday, June 9, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on Aug. 7, 1932, on the farm in Orfordville; the son of Orville and Bernice (Clark) Grenawalt. He served in the United States Navy/Air force during the Korean War. Eugene married Janice Mae Wilson on Oct. 18, 1958, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Evansville. He worked for Janesville Sand and Gravel as a heavy equipment operator for several years and then went to work for Varco-Pruden Buildings in Evansville, retiring in February 1995, after 18 years. While working at his main job, he and his wife also farmed for fifty-five years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, trapping, skeet shooting, the outdoors and passed all his hobbies down to his grandchildren. He made amazing metal yard art, Lapidary jewelry and his work has been sold nationally, including overseas. He loved spending time with his family, but most of all he loved his grandchildren and his great-grandson, Thomas.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janice; his five daughters: Sandra (Wesley) Hauri of Evansville, Linda (Randy) Dean of Brodhead, Terry (John) Franklin of Oregon, Becky (Doug) Patterson of Evansville, Jan (Paul) Diener of New Glarus; eleven grandchildren: Amy (Dave) Baker, Michael, Logan (Jodi), Hannah, Emily, Grace, Matthew, Molly, Joshua, Margo, Lauren; and one great-grandson, Thomas Baker; a step-sister, Grace Anna Terry (Ken); a step-brother, David Kane (Rosemary), both of Janesville, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-mother, Berniece Kane; two brothers and sisters-in-law, James (Nancy) and Kenneth (Lois) Grenawalt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014, at the WARD-HURTLEY FUNERAL HOME, Evansville, with Reverend Dr. Luke Bocher of the Congregational United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Evansville, with Military Rites provided by V.F.W. Post 6905, Evansville. A visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at WARD-HURTLEY FUNERAL HOME, Evansville, and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the FUNERAL HOME.
