July 31, 1953 - June 7, 2014

Linda S. Romps, 60, of Beloit, WI, died unexpectedly on Saturday June 7, 2014, in her home. She was born on July 31, 1953, at the Navel Air Station in Jacksonville, FL, the daughter of H. Marvin Ludtke and Shirley E. Schneider Ludtke Geffers. She was a 1971 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. Linda was tiny in stature, but made up for it in spirit and determination. She moved to Madison, where she managed apartment complexes for many years. Returning to Beloit, she had a 27 year career with Rock County Human Services, where she worked so very hard, to see that those in need were treated with dignity and their needs met with respect. She was a champion for those less fortunate. Many of her clients received anonymous gift cards for groceries and gas or a bus ticket. Her business card served as a ticket to a fresh vegetable stand or a nearby re-sale shop for needed pillows, blankets, clothes and household items. The business people were paid later. Her clients never knew who their Good Samaritan was. Her family and friends were very often asked to put together a bag of groceries, or clothing for those less fortunate and in need. After a cancer diagnosis, Linda retired in 2013, but continued meeting needs where she saw them.

Such a big heart in such a little body. Linda was an avid gardener and an excellent cook for her family and friends. She was her happiest on the beach with the sun, sand and water or in a boat with her fishing poles and bait. Linda was deeply loved as daughter, mother, grammy, sister and auntie to nieces and nephews. Many close friends were part of her “family circle”.

Linda is survived by her parents, H. Marvin (Jesse) Ludtke of Destin, FL, and Shirley Ludtke Geffers of Beloit; her daughter, Heather DeVoe of Janesville; her granddaughter, Morgan DeVoe of Janesville; two sisters, Laurie Kutter of Depere, WI, and Julie (Bob) Metzger of Beloit; nieces and nephews: Ross (Colleen) Kutter of Helsinki, Finland, Lee (Elizabeth Drettmann) Kutter of Arlington, VA, Evan and Elise Metzger of Beloit; and lifetime friend, Lori Pope of Janesville. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Harold and Kelly Ludtke and Leo (Marie) Schneider and Pauline Case Schneider; step-father, David Geffers; and an uncle, David Schneider-Case.

A Celebration of Linda’s Life will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the BRIAN G. MARK FUNERAL HOME, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit, WI, with the Reverend Larry Froemming officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Thursday until time of service at the FUNERAL HOME.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Linda’s name to the Salvation Army, 809 Broad St., Beloit, WI, 53511 or Humane Society of Rock County, 222 S. Arch St., Janesville, WI, 53548.
