ELKHORN—The Geneva Lake Conservancy and Walworth County will work together to develop the county's new White River Park, which is scheduled to open July 10.

The conservancy, a non-profit organization, will: help develop a friends group, or a group of people who will help with park projects and fundraising events; promote the park, and create a land management plan, according to a county news release.

The county purchased the 190.5-acre park off Sheridan Springs Road for $1.91 million in November. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources grant will reimburse the county for half that cost, or $955,000.

White River Park is the first the county has purchased in 10 years, Nancy Russell, county board president, said in November.

“We are really looking forward to developing this partnership over the next several years to benefit county residents and visitors who will enjoy this fantastic new park property,” Charles Colman, conservancy chair, said in the release.

The Walworth County Park Committee approved the agreement at its April meeting.
