Badger High School janitor charged with sexually assaulting student is bound over for trial
ELKHORN—A Badger High School janitor sexually assaulted a 17-year-old student in a music room at the school, a police detective testified Thursday.
Alfredo Sandoval, 68, is charged with felony sexual assault of a student by school staff.
Sandoval, 956 Henry St., Lake Geneva, is accused of sexually assaulting a female high school student May 1, according to a criminal complaint.
Police arrested Sandoval later that day.
Seth Keller, Lake Geneva police detective, testified at the preliminary hearing that the girl "was nervous and scared" after Sandoval kissed and touched her.
The girl told Keller and Assistant Principal Mike Giovingo that she spoke Spanish with Sandoval on "several occasions," Keller said.
After hearing testimony, Judge David Reddy found that Sandoval probably committed a felony and bound him over for trial.
Before the preliminary hearing, Sandoval's lawyer, Derek Goodman, filed a motion to dismiss the case. The criminal complaint lists the girl's age, not her date of birth.
"Stating the alleged victim is 17 years old is not sufficient," Goodman said.
Reddy denied the motion.
Sandoval, wearing blue jeans and a checkered shirt, appeared in court with a Spanish interpreter.
Sandoval is out of jail on a $10,000 cash bond. He is not to have contact with the high school, its students or the girl.
Sandoval will appear in court for an arraignment at 1:15 p.m. Friday, June 20, at the Walworth County Judicial Center.
