WALWORTH--Officials at Kikkoman Foods Inc. in Walworth recently celebrated the company's acceptance into Wisconsin's Green Tier program.

Green Tier recognizes companies that seek to grow their business while improving the health of the environment.

“In 2013, Kikkoman produced nearly 30 million gallons of naturally brewed soy sauces at the Walworth plant while reducing their water use by nearly 2 million gallons,” according to a news release from the Department of Natural Resources. “Kikkoman also recycled 40 pounds of waste for every single pound of waste that was sent to the landfill.”

At the Walworth plant, the by-products of producing naturally brewed soy sauce are recycled or repurposed for other beneficial uses.
