JANESVILLE-The Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin completed 111 free adoptions and raised about $60,000 during Maddie's Free Pet Adoption Days over the weekend.

This included matching more than 30 kittens with families within two hours of being open Saturday.

Despite sending home all of its adoptable animals-dogs, cats and kittens-the shelter has more strays still within its hold requirement. These are animals in need of spay/neuter surgeries and kittens not old enough to leave the care of the shelter.

Animal shelters and rescue groups waive adoption fees during this event in an effort to help pets get go home again. In exchange, participating organizations receive subsidies from $500 to $2,000 for each adoption through Maddie's Fund

Maddie's Fund is one of the largest charitable foundations dedicated to re-homing lost and homeless pets.
